Kestrels

Hello and welcome to Kestrels Class.

Our Class Team are:
Teacher: Clare
TA’s: Sharon, Vicky and Donna. We also have Nicola who helps us as lunchtime.

We are the Explore curriculum which follows the following areas of learning:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Creative and Performing Arts

We also follow the nurture ethos which helps us to socialize with our friends, take turns, share resources and sing songs. This helps our well-being throughout the day.

The Nurture Ethos includes the following six principals:

  • Children’s learning is understood developmentally
  • The classroom offers a safe base
  • The importance of nurture for the development of wellbeing
  • Language is a vital means of communication
  • The importance of transition in children’s lives

In the morning we have breakfast around the table, and we have the opportunity to wash up what we have used. We have snack in the morning which again offers the children an opportunity to develop their communication, language and social skills. These sessions are voluntary and no child will be made to join in if they do not feel comfortable doing so.

In term 1 we will be focussing on the topic, “The World around us”.

We will explore our topic through a range of different sensory activities, so we might become messy at times. It will be really helpful if we can have some spare clothes at school.

Reminders:

  • P.E is on each Tuesday with Conor the PE teacher
  • Music is on a Tuesday with Susan the Music teacher
  • Art is on a Monday with George the art teacher
  • Contact books will be sent home each day. At the front of the book are the targets your child will be working on throughout the week. In the back section is for any comments. Please ensure the book is returned to school each day, so that we can communicate regularly with you.

Should you have any information during the week which you wish to share, please write in the contact book.
