The Subject-Led Curriculum

Our newly-developed Subject-Led curriculum has been designed to meet the needs of our students who already have well-developed behaviours for learning and are able to access greater levels of academic challenge.

With a strong focus on developing key skills for adulthood, our programme of learning follows a curriculum where everything is made relevant and meaningful to the young people and their futures.

The key aspects of the Subject-Led Curriculum are as follows:

  • The curriculum is broad, balanced and allows students time to explore, deepen understanding, and embed skills for life.
  • Students spend their day within a ‘learning community’. Each learning community will have students from the same key stage
  • Every student’s development is overseen by a form tutor. Form tutors will monitor progress, liaise with parents/carers, and attend any meetings concerning that child, such as the annual Person Centred Review meeting, in which EHCP targets are established and reviewed.
  • For our Primary-age classes, form tutors deliver the majority of the curriculum within the main class base.
  • For Secondary-age classes, form tutors will spend the first part of every day with their group, before the students move to different specialist classrooms, taught by different subject teachers.

Nurture Time

Mornings will involve a number of activities, including:

  • Breakfast;
  • Structured social activities;
  • Core skill practice (literacy/numeracy tasks linking to students’ EHCP targets);
  • Wellbeing support;
  • Therapy sessions, led by specified therapists.
  • Project work, linked to Religious Education and world cultures;
  • A weekly Assembly.
