Welcome to Poppies Class.

In our class, we follow a nurturing approach to the National Curriculum. We will be following an Explore curriculum that is tailored to suit the needs of each individual in the class. Each day, we will also have a series of sensory circuit activities to help our pupils integrate and engage in their learning.

Our topics for the year are:

Term 1: The world around me- Occupations
Term 2: The world around me- Festivals and celebrations
Term 3: The imaginary world- Dinosaurs
Term 4: The imaginary world- Castles
Term 5: The natural world- Animals and insects
Term 6: The natural world- Seaside

There are 11 pupils and our team consists of:

Teacher: Lorraine
Teaching Assistants: Sharon, Daniel and Bonnie
Midday meal supervisor: Sheila

We provide pupils with a purposeful, fun and engaging learning environment where we encourage pupils to develop their independence and collaborative skills. Poppies class uses total communication where we combine speech, symbols and signing. Pupils have opportunities to work independently and in groups through differentiated learning activities.

Things to remember:

  • PE will be on Friday, so please can you ensure children are dressed in PE kit on Friday mornings.
  • As we are only sending contact diaries home once weekly, I will be more than happy to communicate daily via email.
  • EHCP diaries will be sent home every Friday. Please ensure they are returned on a Monday so we can keep track of our targets in school.
  • Celebration will take place on a Friday; this is where 1 child from Poppies is awarded the Diamond Certificate for fantastic activities throughout the week.
