Music is an integral part of the curriculum at Meadowfield, and is taught across the school by Susan. As a subject which is accessible to all, Music is an excellent means by which to unify the student body and come together to celebrate community and our school values. We use it as a vehicle for collaborative working, an outlet for expression and a means of communication and celebration.
Students follow a program of study to suit their age range and ability, and lessons are fun, practical and engaging. Some examples of the units Subject-Led students will take part in include Reggae, Finding Your Voice, African Drumming, Music for Film and Media, Haunted House and Samba.
We have recently been awarded a grant by the Universal Music UK Sound Foundation to purchase a new Samba kit, which we look forward to putting to good use in the summer term!
At Meadowfield we are lucky to be a part of the Open Orchestra programme in collaboration with KsENT. Open Orchestra allows all students to experience playing specially prepared music in a group, and on an instrument or specially adapted technology that is suitable for their needs. The sessions are run for a group of students in Extended Impacts each Friday afternoon, these will culminate in an ensemble performance at the end of the school year.
